Micro parts such as screws, nuts and wedge lock washers (locking elements) must meet the highest quality standards in the fully automated manufacturing and production process. The main challenge in the coating process for micro parts is to apply a uniform surface. This means that the paint structure in the cavities and recesses must be as uniform as the rest of the surface.
In order to meet these customer requirements, the WMV team has developed the PULZ® (planetary circulation coating centrifuge) in cooperation with EJOT. With the PULZ®, we have the world’s first coating system that can coat 120 kilograms of material with a change in position at an incredible 32 g acceleration. It achieves this thanks to a physical trick for which WMV has already been granted a patent. This makes it possible to achieve such a high throughput for coating very small parts with hollow bodies.
Why is a consistent surface so important?
The further processing of very small parts is carried out by means of automatic feeding. This means that an efficient production process can only be ensured by 100% quality. If, for example, a screw is fastened in the production process by a robot with a bit attached, this process must not be disturbed by paint build-up. The PULZ® coating system meets precisely these market requirements and thus solves an industry problem that has repeatedly led to production disruptions in the past.
Fulfilling these quality targets also ensures an efficient manufacturing process for the customer.
30% less paint required thanks to the new PULZ® technology
Another advantage of this innovative development for surface treatment is the reduced paint requirement of up to 30%. This in turn is also due to the high quality requirements and is achieved by the technology implemented – centrifugal forces & simultaneous parts circulation. The high throughput rates of the PULZ® thus ensure a contribution to sustainability combined with a simultaneous reduction in costs for the customer.
Innovation award for WMV
The development of PULZ® has now been awarded the “RHEINLAND GENIAL” innovation prize by the Bonn/Rhein-Sieg Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) and the Metropolregion Rheinland e.V.. In particular, WMV’s process and technology innovations in surface treatment were recognized in this context.
We are delighted to have received this award, as it is particularly a token of appreciation for the team. The knowledge, commitment and openness of each individual, even in difficult moments of development, have made this special project and PULZ® possible in the first place.
